Page 4 of 6

Getting Started with REScheck

  1. Select the appropriate code from the Code Menu. If you are unsure of the applicable code, check the Status of State Codes
  2. Complete the information on the Project Screen: location, building characteristics, and project details (optional).
    • If the city in which your building will be located isn't listed, choose a city that is close to your building site and has similar weather conditions.
  3. Enter the building components that comprise the building envelope on the Envelope screen. In many cases, components with the same construction characteristics can be totaled and entered as one component.
Example: If all exterior walls are wood frame 16"o.c. with R-13 cavity insulation, sum the gross area of every exterior wall and enter one wall component.
  4. Completion of the Mechanical Screen is entirely optional. However, installing high-efficiency equipment may offer a tradeoff opportunity. Review the software Help system for more information.
  5. Once compliance has been achieved, use File, Save → or Save As to save the data file (a good idea in case changes are needed later).
  6. Use FileView/Print Report to review and/or print the compliance report and inspection checklist.
  7. Use FileSave Report to retain a PDF or RTF version of the compliance report.
  8. Submit either a printed and signed compliance report and inspection checklist or email report, FileEmail Report to the building department.
