Don't Get in Hot Water with Your Heater
- Make sure pipes near the tank are insulated.
- Check the location of your heater. In northern regions, heaters located inside the house are ideal.
- Check the Energy Guide label. It will estimate how much energy your water heater will use in a year.
- Look for insulation jackets wrapped around older water heaters.
- Check for an insulating "bottom board" under the water heater.
- Look for a natural gas water heater. They are usually less expensive to operate.
