Welcome to the U.S. Department of Energy Building Energy Codes Program's (BECP) monthly newsletter. This newsletter provides the latest information on our work to increase the energy efficiency of the nation's commercial and residential buildings.

Announcing Energy Codes 2007!
Energy Codes 2007, previously referred to as the National Workshop on State Building Energy Codes, will be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, July 24-27, 2007 at the Sheraton Station Square Hotel. Register today!

New version of REScheck™ on the Way!
2006 International Residential Code® requirements have been implemented in REScheck. The new version is undergoing testing and will be ready for download at the end of April.

Improving Requirements for Duct Sealing
BECP is recruiting experts in the field of air tightness of duct systems to participate in DOE's effort to improve requirements for duct sealing in energy codes. BECP's Todd Taylor and Bob Lucas will hold discussions with the experts to prepare a draft code change to make sure duct systems in new buildings are properly sealed.

Website hits at www.energycodes.gov, a national resource on model energy codes, totaled 3,878,927 in March.

New Materials in the Resource Center
BECP's Resource Center section of the website offers the codes community a wealth of information about energy codes and beyond code technologies in a variety media types, including articles, graphics, presentations, videos, and more. This comprehensive information source contains content from BECP's archives and links to other energy code resources on the Web. Two new articles were made available in March: 2006 IECC Prescriptive Requirements and Project File Sharing with BECP Compliance Tools.


Catch us at a Conference!
  • BECP staff will attend the Lightfair International Tradeshow and Conference, May 8-10, 2007 in New York. Visit the BECP booth (number 1685), and pick up a free Checkmate CD! Learn about Emerging Standards for LED Performance from BECP lighting experts Eric Richman and Jeff McCullough, who will speak on May 8 from 2:00 to 3:30pm!

  • BECP lighting expert, Eric Richman, attended the International Dark Sky Association Annual Meeting and presented information on the current exterior lighting requirements in the national energy standards.

Commercial code experts are presenting a three-part webcast series about meeting the American Society for Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Standard 90.1-2004. Videos will be available on the website after each event.
