Learn about energy codes- and standards-related topics, and network with the energy codes community at Energy Codes 2007 (formerly the National Workshop on State Building Energy Codes). Last year, more than 250 people attended. Don't miss this year's event in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, July 24-27 at the Sheraton Station Square Hotel.

Update Available in COMcheck
COMcheck 3.4.1 addresses the cooling equipment efficiency range, 54 kBtu/h - 65 kBtu/h, and features improved functionality regarding the whole-building type and lighting relationship.

ASHRAE SSPC 90.1 Interim Meeting
BECP staff members, Eric Richman, Mark Halverson, Ron Jarnagin, and Bing Liu, attended the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning (ASHRAE) Standing Standards Project Committee (SSPC) 90.1 Interim Meeting in Chicago, March 31 to April 2. Activities at the meeting included discussion and continued development of advanced proposals for the 2010 version of the energy Standard; ASHRAE's goal is for the 2010 Standard to achieve 30% more energy efficiency than the current Standard. Topics discussed include:
  • Lighting - exterior lighting zones, automatic lighting shutoff, advanced controls, lamp technology updates, and current ballast and lamp testing methods
  • Envelope - metal buildings and cool roofs
  • Mechanical - regulating building mechanical systems, including HVAC and service water heating.
BECP Website
Website hits at www.energycodes.gov, a national resource on model energy codes, totaled 3,737,785 in April.

Provided Assistance to States
    New York
As part of an energy analysis being conducted for New York, BECP conducted simulations of office, school, hospital, and retail buildings in New York City, Buffalo, and Albany using two levels of ASHRAE Standard 90.1: 90.1-1999/2001 and 90.1-2004.
Three-Part Webcast Series Boasts Record Attendance!
A record number of attendees tuned in for the first of three webcasts focused on meeting ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2004. Registration is full, but webcast videos will be available on the BECP website after each event. The series addresses three topics, presented by experts in their fields.
  • Lighting Overview - Eric Richman, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, BECP
  • Mechanical Overview - Mark Hydeman, Taylor Engineering, LLC
  • Envelope Overview - John Hogan, City of Seattle, Department of Planning and Development; to be broadcast June 14, 2007
BECP Presents at ASHRAE Honolulu Chapter Meeting
BECP commercial expert Ron Jarnagin participated in the ASHRAE Honolulu Chapter's Technical Seminar on Energy and Sustainability. Ron presented the DOE perspective on energy codes, work being done on federal standards, and activities planned in support of ASHRAE Standard 90.1 and the Advanced Energy Design Guides as well as their relationship to Standard 90.1.
