Energy Codes 2007 Reaches 40 States and Territories!
Energy Codes 2007 was held in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, July 24-27, 2007. BECP offered building tours, key note speakers, training sessions, and more as part of this opportunity to learn about energy codes- and standards-related topics as well as network with the energy codes community. 235 members of the energy codes and standards community from 40 states and territories attended, and over 240 individuals attended pre- and post-training.
DOE Teaming with ASHRAE to Save Energy
BECP is helping the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) achieve their goal of 30% energy savings in ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA¹ Standard 90.1 by 2010. As part of their support, BECP staff is determining an effective statistical approach to simulate energy savings and collecting data for subsequent analysis.
New Setting the Standard Released in July
BECP's latest issue of Setting the Standard features information about residential compliance for the 2006 International Energy Conservation Code® (IECC), frequently asked residential and commercial questions and answers, as well as BECP's support to ASHRAE to incorporate greater energy efficiency measures into ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1.

2009 IECC Code Change Proposals
On DOE's behalf, BECP staff finalized and submitted one commercial and 16 residential code change proposals to the International Code Council (ICC). One of the residential proposals – duct testing requirements – would make the most substantial efficiency improvement to the IECC in more than a decade. The single commercial proposal would rewrite Section 506 Total Building Performance to make the commercial whole building tradeoff in the IECC more comparable to both the residential whole building tradeoff in the IECC (Section 404 Simulated Performance Alternative) and in ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-2004 (Section 11 Energy Cost Budget Method).

Technical Assistance to States
Pima County
BECP staff accommodated the needs of Pima County, Arizona in COMcheck 3.4.2. In particular, three code selections were added to the software for Pima County: Above 4000 Feet, Below 4000 Feet, and Sustainable Energy Standard.
New York
BECP completed all simulation work to compare the ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standards 90.1-2001 and 90.1-2004 and provided the results to the New York state energy office for review. In response to comments received by the New York office, BECP is conducting further analysis on multifamily buildings.
Technical Assistance to Users
Got code questions? We've got code answers. In June and July, BECP received and responded to a total of 799 Technical Support inquiries. Email your questions to: techsupport@becp.pnl.gov.

Training
BECP's live webcast registration fills up fast, but you can always view the recorded webcasts. The three-part series of webcasts on ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-2004 was recently completed, and over 4,000 members of the codes community attended the live events. Watch BECP's recorded webcasts to earn American Institute of Architects/Continuing Education System learning units and ICC continuing education credits toward ICC certification renewal.
Calendar of Events
Advertise to the community! BECP invites website visitors to add a training or event for the building energy codes community on their Calendar of Events – a community source for buildings-related conferences and workshops as well as national energy code training and state energy code training conducted across the nation. In July, 67 events were added to the calendar.
