The Building Energy Codes Program (BECP) tracks energy codes at the state level and provides state specific energy code resources, such as fact sheets, technical analyses, compliance reports, and primary contact information. To make this information readily available, we developed a Residential and Commercial State Energy Code Portal that provides these state resources in one place. Status of State Energy Code Adoption
State energy code equivalence is assessed based on a quantitative analysis of the energy use of a state base code and amendments through DOE’s energy modeling framework to determine the overall state energy index. Then, each state index is compared to the index of previous national model energy codes to characterize each state at a specific code equivalency.
