ASHRAE Standard 90.1 Performance Rating Method (Appendix G) Building Performance Factor Calculation Tool
This calculator can be used to develop a custom set of Building Performance Factors (BPFs) for use with the Performance Rating Method of ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2016 though 2022 when approved by the Authority Having Jurisdiction or Rating Authority. BPFs are calculated using metrics of energy cost, site energy, source energy, and greenhouse gas emissions following the approach described in ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2022 Informative Appendix I. The BPF values published in ASHRAE Standard 90.1 use energy cost, source energy and GHG emissions factors that are based on representative national average values. Jurisdictions can use this tool to better align BPF values with local values. Where a jurisdiction requires the use of hourly or other time of use data to calculate energy costs, emissions or source energy, calculate and enter values representing the annual blended or annual average values.
In addition to calculating BPFs analogous to those published in the various editions of the standard, the tool also calculates alternative BPFs using an updated approach described in he PNNL Technical Support Document titled, "Commercial Building Prototypes Based on ANSI/ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1-2019 Appendix G PRM". The intent is that a jurisdiction or rating authority may choose to adopt BPFs using the updated approach, as the authors believe these to be more technically sound.
